  • Fix LA Coalition Calls For Keeping 5,000 Jobs Promise - 04-20-17
    Print Icon Apr 19, 2017

    By Doug Cunningham

The Fix LA Coalition is calling on city department heads to fulfill Mayor Eric Garcetti's promise to create 5,000 new jobs to restore city services. Budget hearings are under way for Los Angeles.

The Fix LA Coalition, which includes labor unions, says the budget cuts that cost jobs mean unreasonable 911 emergency wait times, neglected trash, potholes and broken sidewalks among other issues. There are also hundreds of pending city employee retirements in Los Angeles.

The Fix LA Coalition says "Targeted Local Hire" was key to the pledge to create 5,000 new jobs. The failure to hire anywhere near 5,000 people calls into question the city's real commitment to the Targeted Local Hire" program, which is supposed to hire people living in disadvantaged communities.
