  • New Mexico Dems Vow To Keep Fighting After Gov Vetoes Wage Hike - 04-18-17
    Print Icon Apr 17, 2017

    By Doug Cunningham

New Mexico House Speaker Brian Egolf says Democrats will continue to push to improve the lives of working families after GOP Governor Susana Martinez vetoed minimum wage increases.

The House bill would have increased New Mexico's minimum wage of $7.50 per hour to $9.25 per hour. A state Senate bill would have hiked the minimum wage to $9 an hour.

Despite decades of evidence that raising the minimum wage doesn't hurt business or cost jobs, the Republican Governor of New Mexico thinks paying workers closer to a living wage will somehow harm business in her state.
