    By Doug Cunningham

The New Jersey State Senate is expected to vote Monday on legislation that would let police and firefighter unions manage their own pension systems.

Legislation doing that was approved by a state Senate committee on a 10-1 vote.

Police and fire unions in New Jersey may try managing their pension systems on their own. Policeman's Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan says police can't count on the state of New Jersey to properly care for the pensions anymore.

New Jersey has systematically underfunded public employee pensions by not making adequate payments into the system for years.
