DACA Dreamers Don’t Lower Wages, Republicans Do
By Dr. Frank Emspak
Who’s hurting American workers the most? DACA immigrant “dreamers” or Republicans?
When he announced the termination of the DACA program, Attorney General Jeff Sessions claimed dreamers were taking hundreds of thousands of jobs from Americans. He suggested that deporting dreamers would increase wages for American workers.
Sessions said Trump’s immigration policies would “protect American workers, increase wages and salaries.”
But Republicans oppose increasing wages.
In Wisconsin the GOP controlled legislative Joint Finance Committee just voted to lower wages by eliminating prevailing wages rules on state road construction projects.
The GOP opposes raising the minimum wage. Trump’s Justice Department is siding with business to deny 4.2 million workers overtime pay granted to those workers by President Obama.
And in Missouri the GOP state government just forced St. Louis to lower it’s minimum wage, from $10 an hour down to $7.70.
Dreamers aren’t lowering American worker wages, Republicans are.
