New York Port Authority Votes For Living Wage Policy At Airports

By Doug Cunningham

The New York /New Jersey area  Port Authority Board of Commissioners has voted unanimously to develop a living wage policy. The policy will also improve benefits. In January Port Authority Executive Director Patrick Foye told airlines flying in and out of the region’s airports to immediately bump wages up a dollar an hour and to phase in at least $10.10 an hour for all workers. Workers at LaGuardia and JFK got the increase, but Newark airport workers didn’t. The Port Authority wants to raise standards higher than that going forward. Most of the airport workers fighting for higher wages are represented by SEIU 32BJ. UNITE-HERE represents concessions workers.
