International Human Rights Day To Be Marked By Civil Disobedience At NYC Immigration Court

By Doug Cunningham

This is International Human Rights Day and a diverse group in New York City is marking the day with civil disobedience in front of the immigration court to demand reform of the immigration system. The action is being led by undocumented youth to highlight the system that tears apart 1100 families a day through deportations. Groups from four states are also gathering in New York City today to celebrate the first state in the union implementing America’s first universal publicly financed health care system. Vermont’s Healthcare Is A Human Rights campaign got it passed in 2011. It  committed the Vermont “to provide, as a public good, comprehensive, affordable, high-quality, publicly financed health care coverage for all Vermont residents.”
