New U.S. Census data released Tuesday shows household income is down and is now 8 percent less than it was before the Great Recession of ‘07/’08. Fifteen percent of Americans – 46.5 million people – are in poverty. SEIU President Mary Kay Henry says this new data shows we need to build a strong and equitable economy that allows working people to truly benefit from their labor. She says America’s economic well-being depends on it. And that’s why, she says, that movements like the low wage worker movement must succeed.
